After obtaining a master’s degree in counseling, I discovered I have a love and passion for working with a variety of diverse clients. As a result of training and experience, I specialize in depressive disorders, parent/teen conflicts, caregiver stress, couples/marriage counseling, grief/loss issues and traumas associated with sexual and other forms of abuse. My approach involves helping others identify their strengths, recognize negative thinking patterns, and obtain real healing by learning to love and accept one’s self. My main belief is that, with unconditional love and support, things CAN get better.
My main goal as a therapist is to foster a sense of hope in the lives of all those I serve. By doing so, I strongly believe we as human beings have the capacity to experience greater joy, self-awareness, increased self-esteem and renewed hope; regardless of our circumstances. I believe we all possess strengths we may not even be aware of.
By working together, my role is to assist others in finding ways to live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have seen what the human spirit can do even when a small glimmer of hope has been ignited. Whether you or a loved one are experiencing trauma, relationship issues, depression, grief/loss issues, aging/caregiver concerns, parent/teen conflicts, or difficulty controlling anger, there is still hope. After years of treating adolescents, couples, families, older adults, and individuals, I know for a fact that things CAN get better!
My areas of interest and specialty include Relationship and Interpersonal Issues, Caregiver Support, Grief/Loss Issues, Various Forms of Abuse including Sexual Abuse, Parent/Teen Conflicts, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Anxiety Disorders, Depression and Bipolar Disorder.
Depression, fear and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. These emotions can disrupt our ability to fuction in every day life and if left untreated, can worsen over time. Through counseling and treatment, we can work together to help you recover motivation, perspective and joy that you once had in your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. These symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety and uncontrollable thoughts about the event. PTSD can also result in panic disorder, depression, substance use, or suicidal thoughts. As your therapist, I can help you make sense of the traumatic event and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
The process of grieving can range from emotional as well as physical symptoms. We as individuals do not grieve exactly alike. Grief can cause feelings such as shock, numbness, sadness, denial, anger, guilt, helplessness, depression, and yearning. Physical symptoms may include tightness and heaviness in the chest or throat, nausea or stomach upset, dizziness, headaches, numbness, muscle weakness, tension, or fatigue. As your therapist, I can help you discover healthy ways to cope with the pain, ease your sadness, come to terms with your loss and find new meaning as you move forward in your life.
Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to improve their communication skills, address unresolved issues and strengthen their connection with one another. In this setting , no one is judged and both parties are allowed to openly express themselves in a safe and supportive environment. I will assist you both in identifying negative behaviors which can be changed in order to improve your relationship with one another.
